Skirting the Issue…
I’ve had a few people ask me about the cute little skirt that hides the kitchen sink cabinet.
It is such an easy project I never thought people would be interested in reading about it.
Then my sweet friend KariAnne from Thistlewood Farms said I absolutely needed to share this!
So here you are KariAnne. This one’s for you…
The Secret to Creating a Quick and Easy Kitchen Sink Skirt
So what’s the big secret you ask?
Yep! The wonders of the tension rod.
How did we ever decorate without them?
It spans from the inside frame on one side of the cabinet to the other.
My sweet little Momma made the skirting for me using the same fabric I recovered my bistro and dining room chairs with. She also whipped up a valance for the window over the kitchen sink. Because it’s chenille, it’s a bit tricky to work with.
The fabric is from Ballard Designs and it is fabulous!
Love that it can add character and texture while still remaining neutral.
(Wish more people were like that fabric – am I right y’all?)
Sneak Peek at the Kitchen Refresh
I feel like a little bit of a fraud posting these pictures… You see my kitchen doesn’t look at all like this anymore.
I still have this cute little skirt on the sink cabinet, but almost everything else is getting a facelift.
It all started because I was a little tired of the color of these old cabinets and the winter just wouldn’t seem to end.
(Translation: Not good for this gypsy spirit of mine to be cooped up so many weeks and months!)
So here it is… a work in progress…
Because we are off to spend the rest of the summer in northern Michigan, it won’t be finished until fall.
There is one thing you definitely learn how to work if you buy a historic home…
A steamer!
This house had layer after layer after layer of wallpaper to take down.
Even the closets and some ceilings were covered…
So after about five or six years, we are saying good-bye to this little fat chefs!
Stay tuned…
Kitchen reveal to come in late September or early October!
What projects are you working on?
