When Summer Collapses in to Fall
Have you seen or heard those Pure Michigan commercials voiced by Tim Allen?
They sure have it right!
Fall around the Great Lakes is tough to beat…
This week’s Gypsy’s Journal is a random assortment, as usual.
We are back from our northern Michigan summer and trying to get organized and on track
It is always tough to get back to reality, but this year it is doubly so because…
The gas company has moved in to our yard to replace ALL of the gas lines.
“Screen shots” which really are taken through the windows and screens upstairs
Some days we lose power. Other days its cable and internet.
And starting Monday morning, they will be turning off the gas for the day. The crew will be moving in to our basement to actually move the lines and the meter. My next door neighbor thinks they are going to blow our houses up. She’s at high hysteria and now I’m finding myself getting a little anxious.
So send ’em up my friends… I’m hoping to make it through the day with our house and limbs in tact!
The meter will then be located…on the front of our 100+ year old house.
Not quite the curb appeal we were shooting for…
Especially since we’ll lose some boxwood and pricey shrubs in the front yard.
Ah… progress!
So in between resetting all of our digital clocks, digging through piles of laundry and trying to save my landscaping from being crushed under end loaders and heavy work boots…
here’s a look at the rest of this Gypsy’s Journal for the past week or so.
A Day in the Life
Having a Farmer’s Market just two blocks from my house from May through October is one of my many blessings.
It is so nice to buy fresh flowers to keep throughout the house without having to sell a kidney to afford it.
I have a favorite flower vendor. Here’s what super fun and slightly reality show-ish about them….
The gals are sisters. Little older (please don’t ask how old cuz I am sooo bad at figuring that out!) and an older chap who helps them out.
Here’s the catch…
The older chap has been married to each of them. At different times. (It’s not a sister wives kind of show ya’ll!)
It’s always interesting to stop by their booth.
And their flowers last almost two weeks!
And it’s a bummer but this is the last of their friendly-faced sunflowers for the year…
Transitioning the House to Fall
I will be taking part in a Fall Tour of Homes that I will share more information about next week.
A bunch of my favorite lifestyle bloggers are joining forces… can’t wait!
So I’m starting to transition everything over and bid summer farewell…
I’ve been stalking the greenhouses patiently impatiently waiting on pumpkins to arrive.
So far… just these two lonely little rascals!
I finished, framed and had this little watercolor waiting as a surprise for my parents
My little momma has been trying to steal it for a while. I wasn’t quite done with it, but some of her bubbas card-playing friends were coming over and she had one spot on her kitchen wall she was determined to hang it. So I gave up and let it go!
My Joybird Sample Box arrived!
Now I can get to working on redesigning my home office…
Yep…that bubble gum swatch on top is leading the pack!
New House Lighting
I’ve mentioned before that it looks like this old house will be going on the market next spring.
So I’m talking with builders near the Ann Arbor area trying to get an idea on who might be a good fit for old house lovers trying to be happy about building something new.
My friend Megan turned me on to a lighting company that I love!
Bad news is just this one light I fell in love with for the entry eats up more than half of the lighting budget for every builder I’ve talked with so far! No fooling… One light = 60% of the lighting budget.
But check it out ya’ll… Isn’t she lovely?
Halloween Window Boxes
I got started whipping up a new look for my window boxes for Halloween
We have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds… of trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood so I want them to look fun!
And somewhere along the way, my three favorite little people started back to school.
The twins became 3rd graders ( and moved UPSTAIRS – a big thing at their school y’all) and their big sis became a 5th grader.
How did this happen? What can I do to stop it?
I’m afraid the next time I blink they will be driving their cars home from college for a visit…
And of course… my Sunday Funny
What have you been up to this week my friends?
Would love to hear from you all…
XO
