Using Grocery Store Roses to Make a Valentine’s Day Centerpiece
Are you a rose person?
I am. But not of the traditional red roses. Give me funky colors and pretty blends like the ones above.
I try to track this color down every year when I’m making my Valentine’s Day centerpiece because it looks so fun in this little sequin purse. I bought it about ten years ago just to use for flowers.
After all these years, I have creating this centerpiece down to a science. Less than 10 minutes and I’m rolling.
The first step is one I actually do the night before I buy the roses… that is soaking the floral foam.
Doing so helps you make sure it will keep the flowers fresh longer.
I also have a tiny little plastic bowl that fits right down in the “purse” that I use to place more water and the foam in.
The shape of this purse-turned-vase makes it super easy to build the centerpiece…
I start with three stems to act as the shape of the centerpiece. Then I work my way up and around from there…
My Auntie is a fabulous floral designer. Years ago she gave me a few tips that I always try to keep in mind for this arrangement: work in odd numbers, form the base of your flowers in to an “L” shape, and to keep turning the arrangement around as you build.
I know some designers use a lazy susan to set the vase on as they work.
Some day I will get organized and order one to do just that!
Toss a few conversation hearts (family-friendly or the risky fun ones depending on your audience!) around and add a few candles.
You’ve got yourself a centerpiece that will be good to go for a few weeks IF you keep filling the tiny bowl inside with fresh water each day.
I just love playing in flowers… don’t you?
