As I was puttering around in my window boxes last week, it occurred to me that this is the last Spring I will be able to plant these window boxes that my Pops and I made. {hiccup…sniff sniff…} Our house sold in less than two days on the market (Yikes! More about that to come soon!) and we will probably be rolling north to Michigan before the July 4th holiday.
My family knows I will need a whole “buncha” tissues to make the drive…
Spring window boxes and containers are tricky to do around here where we can and do get snow in April and frost up until Memorial Day.
So I try to limit myself to fun “stuff” and hearty little Jack Frost pansies.
I’m apologizing in advance for my photos. In all of the house-selling mania, they were only taken with my iPhone. Which…true be told…is still a 4s… Don’t judge me! I really dislike dealing with cell phone companies so I put it off.
But here we go… here’s what all of the cool, historic home window boxes are sporting for Spring of 2016!
Historic Home Spring Window Boxes
I started by painting myself some funky SPRING letters. The pink-ish color is our door color… Benjamin Moore Blushing Red. And isn’t the green contrast fun? I’m flashing back to junior high and high school prepster days.
I use Liquid Nails to add dowel rods to the backs to be able to stick them in the dirt in the window boxes.
Last Spring I made a few fun birdhouses to add to the mix…
Then come the pansies…
And if you look really closely you will see the bulbs I planted in my window boxes last fall…really are blooming!
Better pictures to follow of that – pinky swear!
I couldn’t resist dotting the “I” with a metal flower I had…
And adding a few nests, wooden Robin’s eggs, Forsythia and other goodies…
My happy little window boxes that will survive even the toughest Great Lakes spring weather!
Please consider “pinning” an image or two to your Pinterest boards! It really helps my little blog grow when you do…

I just love your colorful, artistic style, Shelley! It really is joyful (and we need more joyful if we’re going to survive spring in the midwest!). Congrats on selling the house so quickly! I knew you would. Just wish I was the buyer. 🙁 Trying to get our ducks in a row so that we can list our house next spring (and quite possibly move up to the Ann Arbor area as well). Can’t wait to see your journey unfold. Blessings!

Thank you! Feels a little overwhelming right now but I’m sure it will all be worth it in a few months…
