Designing Pottery Dinnerware
Creating My Own Dishes to Use “Up North”
Isn’t she fun?
The eye lashes and lips are so me… a bit of whimsy even though it is an entirely practical piece.
If y’all have been following my blog, you know I’m reluctantly preparing for a move.
While the artsy side of me is excited about building a new place from the ground up near Ann Arbor, leaving this fantastic old community is tough. Home now is a historic home in an old community on the river. Lots of opportunities for artsy folks.
On the horizon after this house is sold and the new one is done is to buy a cottage or condo “Up North” where we love to spend summers with our extended family.
Here are a few photos from past summers…
When I was at the pottery studio that is just a few blocks from my house playing around (one of the reasons I’m reluctant to move is not having this place to hop on over to when I need a break from everyday craziness!), I decided it would be fun to design and develop a set of dishes for us to use Up North.
Fish…flowers…birch trees…pine trees..THE lake…
They all remind me of summer in northern Michigan.
I’m already almost done with the first of a few lighthouses I’m going to paint for Up North.
Here’s a peek…
So I thought it might be fun to tackle this project now when the ice and snow are blowing!
The fish bowl (above) is going to be a bread bowl.
I’ll probably do a few of them.
I thought I would probably make three or four different designs for the plates and then tackle salad plates, serving pieces and all those fun things.
Here’s a look at the first design:
The next decision for these guys and gals will be glaze color!
Robin’s Egg blue?
Pink?
Sunflower Yellow?
What do you think?
