Has warmer weather reached you yet? Here in Michigan we literally went from a foot of snow on the ground to 84 degrees in a matter of days. My little momma and I made our first trip to the greenhouse yesterday. So my garden will be officially underway tonight…
Last summer was our first real summer in the new house. Most of that time was spent on the “not so fun but must be done stuff” like…
Hauling away rooftop high piles of branches left behind, cleaning out overgrown flower beds, ripping out miles of pavers, and digging out load after load of lava rock and weird white stone.
By the time I got around to setting up my raised bed veggie garden, summer was largely gone. Here’s my summer “vegetable harvest.”
Cute but not exactly the bountiful harvest I envisioned…
Fast forward to 2018. The yard is shaping up and so are my plans for a real vegetable garden, albeit one that lives in a galvanized horse trough that serves as a raised garden.
I’m looking forward to using the pottery garden markers I whipped up…
And I’m also psyched to be growing veggies from the seeds my friends at Gardner’s Supply sent over.
Garden to Give with Gardener’s Supply
Gardener’s Supply launched an effort to help encourage backyard gardeners to share their extra produce with local food banks. Because let’s face it, we’ve all had those weeks when 50 different green peppers bloom at once or 25 tomatoes are ready to be picked.
Instead of pawning them off on your co-workers or neighbors, consider donating them to a food bank near you.
If you take the pledge to donate your extra produce to a local food bank or donate money to one, you will be entered to win a $100 gift card from Gardener’s Supply.
You can check it out and take the pledge here.
And if you aren’t quite sure where to find a local food bank, visit AmpleHarvest.org.
You can also help by encouraging the gardeners you know to pitch in. Use the hash tag #gardentogive to spread the word!
I’ll share photos of my veggie garden throughout the summer, too. Be sure to follow me on Instagram to see how things are going…
Fingers crossed it will be more than three baby carrots.
Until next time,
Shelley
