Heralding the Holidays: Decorating the Banister

October 9, 2014 By Shelley Leave a Comment

Holiday decorating for a historic homeHeralding the Holidays

Am I the only one already feeling a little behind for the holidays? One of my cousins is coming in town for a long weekend soon and she’s already making good progress on her holiday shopping. I know without asking my sister-in-law  has her gifts bought and wrapped by now. I’m a pretty darned organized person but October always sends me in to a panic.

This year I’m trying to go all out decorating our house. It will likely be the last Christmas in this old house.  I’m trying to look at this is a fun, new beginning. I’m sure it will be. But leaving a house I’ve literally poured my heart in to won’t be easy. #PassTheTissuesPlease

Decorating the Banister for Christmas

So this week I’m kicking off my holiday decorating planning efforts. The banister picture above has some pretty little swags I made about five years ago and have always liked but not loved. (Can you see the white out blizzard blowing in the window?) To see what else I might do this year, I’ve been prowling around the internet and Pinterest for some new ideas.

I’m torn between incorporating my love of all things snowman, skiing, skating and sledding with something a little more…posh. What I’m arm wrestling myself with is avoiding being “overly themed” with too much snowy fun versus a “clash of the themes”. Will too posh look silly with my snow folks and fun?

My tree will probably look similar to these pics from last year:

And now here are a few things I liked from Pinterest:

Y’all see my dilemma?

Looks like I’m gonna need to shake up a few chocolate martinis and call my peeps for some input.

p.s. I couldn’t find a source for the internet photos above. Not on a single one of them. If they are yours, shoot me a note and I’ll be happy to link to you.

p.s.s. Day #9 of the 31 Days of Writing Challenge and I’m still hanging tough…
