Homemade Green Cleaning Products
Cleaners or cleansers?
Kind of the tomato versus tomatoe, potato vs potatoe debate
Whichever way you say it, going green helps in a variety of ways!
Why Go Green with Cleaning Products?
Have any of y’all heard how dramatically the number of people living with an autoimmune disorder has climbed in recent years?
While I never thought I would be one of those people who brewed their own cleaning product, the fact that I battle an autoimmune disease every day has changed that. And I know I’m not alone.
For chicks under the age of 65, autoimmune diseases are a leading source of death. One of the top ten killers gals! And the number is climbing…
The tough part is… no one really understands why. But there are lots of theories, including the number of chemicals we are inundated with every day.
After only buying organic foods and being very mindful of where and how our food is grown for years now, last year I started buying all green cleaning products.
Yep…that leaves a big ‘ole dent in the pocket book.
So I decided it was time to tackle making a few of my own.
And it seemed easier to begin with products for cleaning the bathroom and kitchen.
You know what my friends?
It’s super easy and very inexpensive!!
Making Your Own Green Bathroom & Kitchen Cleaners
I can’t believe how easy this turned out to be!
A little trial and error and here’s my “recipe” for making green cleaners for the bathrooms and kitchen…
Green and Clean Bathrooms
Equal parts of White Vinegar and Filtered Water (for my recipe – I used one cup of each)
2 Tablespoons of Baking Soda
8 to 10 drops of Lavender essential oil
8 to 10 drops of Lemon essential oil
Sparkling Clean and Green Kitchens
Same mix of White Vinegar and Filtered Water (1 cup of each)
2 Tablespoons of Baking Soda
1 Tablespoon of Lemon Juice
6 to 8 drops of Lemon essential oil
8 to 10 drops of Lavender essential oil
Make Your Own “Cute” Cleanser Bottles
I know… cute doesn’t usually apply to cleaning bottles
But aren’t they cute?
I bought the bottles on Amazon and added chalkboard labels…
Total Sidebar: I am working on my white balance and aperture in my photography class…
As you can see in the photo below, the learning curve is steep!
But I’m hanging tough and not giving up…Momma didn’t raise no quitter!
Cleaning a Gas Stovetop
My final experiment is still a work in progress and that is…cleaning the stove top on a gas stove.
Ugh. Even though we never, ever fry food on the stove top…it looks like we are total grease lovers.
I’m told that “gumminess” is because gas stove tops get so hot.
Cross your fingers folks... I will know later today if I’ve figured out a green way to clean it after trying loads of suggestions I found online.
Stay tuned…
