Re-Styling the Coffee Table

October 15, 2014 By Shelley Leave a Comment

I’ve mentioned before that it looks like a move is in the future. Probably next summer. So I’m trying to exercise restraint in buying anything new. In my head, I know its the right thing to do. So why am I suddenly overcome by the need to redecorate and redo? Everything from my fall window box decor to the stairway banister for Christmas to the coffee table is plucking on my nerve, my friends. I blame my southern grandmother. She was contrary! (Loved her to bits though and still miss her every day.) I think knowing I shouldn’t redecorate brings that streak of contrarian out… So I made a deal with myself this morning. I can work on re-styling the coffee table. But restyling only.

No new coffee table like this fabulous one . (I know right??)

or this equally fabulous one…

I’m forcing myself to dig around in my accessories boxes in the basement first and then and only then… head out to see what kind of fun stuff I can find!

Basics of Re-styling the Coffee Table

I know from having done this more times than a girl should really ever admit to, what I like for my coffee table and what I need to consider are:

  • We love books and magazines! Because I moved the tray I normally keep the magazines on to the master bath, its been downright unruly looking lately. So I need a new and unusual tray.
  • I have to have a spot for a small/medium vase or container of fresh flowers. Especially during the cold and dreary winters around here.
  • We pile up books under the coffee table. I need to get a grip on the mess that looks like some days! Maybe a metal basket or something textured?
  • A candle or two is a must!
  • I like something tall on the corners. Or at least one corner.
  • We are always writing, scribbling and highlighting stuff while watching Scandal and Castle. Mainly work stuff. So I need to find something cute to keep all the pens and highlighters in.
  • Maybe a runner? I have a hard time finding the right look and size, but I’m going to give it a whirl!
  • And finally… I just need an oddball accessory or two. Right? Every coffee table needs something to talk about on it.

Wish me luck!

XO

Shelley
