My Dad has always said I’m part Gypsy. Not offense to anyone who is. What he means is I like to move around a lot. Whether its a week-long trip or just local excursions, I am happiest when I am a girl on the go. My illness the past few years has clipped my gypsy wings a bit, unfortunately.
Yesterday I was given the green light to hit the pool again and to get my act back on the road in a limited sort of way. So I headed out in the early afternoon to play in clay at the 577 Foundation (I’ll share more about this wonderful place soon!) before I hit the water at the Y. Today I’m off to load up on paint chips and samples before I splash about.
I just love a paint store! Seriously. I’m a chick who loves color!! Today I’m going to scope out Sherwin Williams. Right before I fell down the black hole of hell again two weeks ago, I had the chance to play with Annie Sloan paints at a new store in our area that carries them. The great thing about paint is that it is inexpensive and so easy. You can change your look in a day. That is, of course, once you decide on a color. I like to tape paint samples all over my house and live with them. Morning light. Afternoon. Night time. You need to see how each reacts in your house. And even though I love color, I like to have my whole house work together and not have my walls fight with each other. So it does take me some time to get it all right. But the fun is in the process isn’t it?
Check those fun paints from England out if you haven’t. They will likely be a part of my kitchen reno project...or maybe my dining room reno? Before I got sick I was working on convincing myself to sell this old house and build a new one. So I have a New House Ideas board chock full of great stuff. At heart though, new isn’t very appealing to me. This old historic community I live in just rocks. Can’t build character like this. So I think I will try to take the newbie board and use it in my Renew and Refresh project.
As long as we are talking paint, here is my favorite paint company and a fun store in D.C. that carries it. It’s Hollandlac paint from Fine Paints of Europe. You will fall in love if you like gloss. When I lived in Georgetown (home of some of the greatest doors and window boxes EVER) this was this insider’s secret paint source. Check this out:
Monarch Paint on Connecticut Avenue is great about shipping it since I no longer call 20016 home! This fun blue is my current door color (no…this isn’t my house. Although the front door looks like mine!) but its been up there about five years now. So this spring…you guessed it…time to sand, swish and repaint. I have a few Benjamin Moore samples picked out. Monarch Paint will take that and shazam! convert it in to Hollandlac paint in that color. What do you think? I know…photo quality sucks. I’m working on learning how to use my new camera so don’t write me or tweet me about it. I’m leaning towards Peony? But also like Blushing Red. Keep in mind that using Hollandlac paint will seriously amp this up!
Time to roll… So excited to have another creative field trip AND be able to swim again!
