Am I the only one that thinks summer needs a speeding ticket?
Our beautiful pergola was finally finished in mid-June, and except for a few cookouts and parties with friends and families, we haven’t slowed down long enough to enjoy it much.
When this project was in it’s messiest stages and taking far longer than the contractor promised, I kept from losing my marbles by envisioning myself out here curled up with a great book, some good tunes playing, and maybe a fun adult beverage with a cute umbrella in my hand. Peace. Quiet. Relaxing. Restorative.
You get the idea right? Lots of R & R.
As of today, that’s literally never happened. I bring my laptop out here and work but no books. No “R. ” No other “R.”
Since summer seems to be racing by, I am scheduling myself some time off. Some R&R time to tackle the pile of books that is piling up in the family room.
There are about five or six of us friends and family members who share books, and I’ve been the cog in the wheel. The house where loaned books come to get some R&R in a stack with their friends and family.
What’s currently on the rose colored puffy ottoman in our family room and the hearth on the fireplace waiting patiently to be read?
In honor of National Book Lovers Day on August 8th, I’m sharing my summer book list.
Book Suggestions in Honor of National Book Lovers Day
And just an FYI, I didn’t include any links. People often mistake them for affiliate links, which I don’t participate in.
Every one of my peeps has read this one and loved it. A spy novel with a little love and betrayal included.
I know this is about to be a movie, but I’m still going to read the book first! That movie trailer looks great though doesn’t it?
A book most women will probably appreciate, the author shares words of wisdom on using your own voice and avoiding the comparison trap. We know comparison is the thief of joy and yet…so many of us fall in to that black hole.
From the author of “Devil Wears Prada…” I don’t really need to say any more do I?
A tale of love, money, power, and an old murder. All set on a pricey New England island in the summer. Sold!
If you are a fan of the late Nelson Mandela, and honestly who isn’t, you might want to put this one on your list, too. It’s written by his grandson who came to live with him after his release from prison.
Ernest Hemingway has always been one of my favorites. Like my family, he spent a lot of time in northern Michigan. This new book chronicles his trip to Venice and affair with his last “muse,” a woman 30 years his junior.
My little momma added this one to my list. If you like biographies, you’ll probably want to tackle this one too. It’s from Pulitzer Prize winning author, Jon Meacham. He tries to help give readers hope that we’ve survived times of division before in this country.
Finally, this is one I’m just finishing… It’s a great book. The author was the Mayor of New Orleans until recently. He came in to office after the Katrina disaster and helped his noble city recover. He’s a great example of a leader who has an ability to work across both sides of the aisle and do what’s right.
So that list should keep me busy until Christmas right??
You can Pin the image below to refer to when you need a new idea or two! And if you have a must-read book suggestion for me, drop the title and author in the Comments below. I’d love to add it to my stack…
Until next time,
