Finding the Perfect Light for a New House Entry
If you’ve visited before, you know I’m hip deep in new house plans.
One big challenge?
Staying on budget!
Seriously y’all…the struggle is real especially with flooring and lighting.
So I took some photos of the entry of the model and wanted to share the tweaks we will be making to improve it and to ask for some advice on narrowing down our lighting…
New House Entry
Here are the photos from the model…
And here’s how we’ll be changing it to give it our stamp…
Our floor will be dark hardwood… we will be going with a wood and iron stairway railing that has a more southern flair to the iron… and our paint color is the beautiful buttery color we have in our home now.
I think the entry is so important don’t you?
It’s why I want a better lighting fixture than this one that makes me kind of …yawn… whenever I walk in to the model.
It’s actually a lot bigger and wider than it looks.
It continues on over to the dining area on one side and a guest suite on the other.
And we are extending the hardwood in through the great room (where you see carpet below).
And we’ll be using the Peek a Boo table I fell in love with and used in our entry makeover last summer.
This is a close up of the Jersey Cream in our sunroom…
I would link to the sample on the Sherwin Williams site but…it looks nothing like Jersey Cream!
Here is is behind the bar in the living room and in one corner of the sunroom.
So you have a visual right?
Dark hardwood flooring, buttery walls, white trim.
It will be visible from the dining room, guest bath and guest bedroom in addition to the great room.
Entry Lighting Finalists
So here are the finalists in absolutely no particular order…
And just for kicks… what do you think of this one?
This is how it looks when the light is on. Kinda cool right? Or maybe not?
I’ve gone back and forth and think I might really like it. Or not.
So please…help a girl out and VOTE in the Comments below!
I thank you AND my family thanks you….

Hi Shelley! Just thought I’d let you know that Ballard Designs is having a lighting sale right now. They have a beautiful selection. I’ve used one or two of them myself on our fixer upper. I’d caution you to avoid anything that seems super trendy (like the globe chandeliers, for example). You might like it now, but will you like it five years from now? It depends on the look you are going for in your next home. A lantern style is very classic, but maybe you want something more contemporary with some bling? Of the options above, I think I liked the 6 bulb iron the best. Classic and dark, it will be a nice complement to the dark floors. Good luck! One decision down, a thousand more to go! 😉

Haha. I like that…one decision down, a thousand more to go! So true. I love Ballard Design, too! Thanks for the tip. I’m ok with trendier on some things. The entry way light is one spot. Luckily I have a cousin that will live near the new house that is a whiz with anything electrical. And he works for Pecan Sandie cookies instead of cash! I’m loving some of the blue grey cabinetry I see at the cabinet companies everywhere right now but I know that would be a big (expensive) mistake. Thanks for stopping in!

I love the direction you are going with the entry lighting. I have a couple of spots that need something fun like that. 🙂
