Is it just me or does it seem like pansies and pumpkins are late this year? Maybe I’m jumping the gun because it is sooo much chillier outside than it usually is this time of year. Brrr…. I have been stalking the greenhouses I usually get them from without any luck so far. My lonely little silver bucket in the photo above needs pansies! And a tiny little pumpkin!!
It might also be that I want the yard to be perfection this Fall. As I’ve mentioned before, it looks like a “For Sale” sign will be coming to our front yard next summer. Ugh. Double ugh. Just ugh. Y’all know by now how much I love this 100+ year old home, my street, my neighbors…the whole ‘hood in general. The history and architecture appeal to my southern roots. While I will be excited to call Michigan home, this old house and historic little burg are tough to leave.
Ok…I know…enough with the whining girl…
Saying Goodbye to Summer
This time of year I am usually pulling the dead stuff out of the yard and adding mums, kale, decorative cabbages, pumpkins and yes…pansies. Before the idea of moving came up, I was planning on retiring the current window boxes (they came with the house and I’ve never liked them!) and having some larger, deeper ones built. Ditto for some of my fall yard decor like the silver buckets I made a few years ago. I’m trying to make it all work one last season so don’t judge them. I know they are beat up!
One of my friends ask me to share the “in between” stage in photos. She thinks there is more to it than there really is. So these photos are for you, Carol!
My dad can literally fix and make anything I need inside or out. He is amazing. About ten years ago when I first decided I needed a new way to keep my pumpkins in place in my window boxes and containers, he whipped these things up for me. And these not so pretty stacks of plastic boxes are how I organize all my seasonal window box and container supplies. I take a lot of harassment about being overly organized but it works for me!
These photos are a little sad without those chipper-looking pansies and the color small pumpkins add but here they are…waiting. Along with a fun new FALL sign I’m making for the front of one of my center window box. Stay tuned for that…
Hope fall is treating you well! Stop on by my blog in a few days and (fingers crossed) I’ll be sharing a few photos of my greenhouse excursion to pick up my pansies and pumpkins…
